5Video Editor
The Video Editor is a full-featured, non-linear video editor built into BrandCast Studio AI. It lets you assemble a timeline from AI-generated clips and uploaded footage, visually trim and split clips, mark frames to skip, add text and image overlays, mix a background audio track and voiceover, then export a finished video β all without leaving the browser.
Opening the Video Editor
Navigate to Video Editor in the left sidebar, or open
it directly from a campaign that has generated video clips. The
editor loads your campaign's clip library automatically.
Layout Overview
Left Panel β Clip Library
Browse all video clips available to your organization. The library is scoped to your account β you will only see clips belonging to your own campaigns and clips you have personally uploaded. Use the search bar or filter by campaign to narrow results.
Centre Panel β Canvas & Preview
Live preview of the current clip with Fabric.js overlays. Drag text and image overlays directly on the canvas. A scrubber below the canvas lets you seek to any frame.
Right Panel β Item Settings
Context-sensitive controls for the selected timeline item: Frame Editor, audio controls, volume, mute, and overlay management.
Bottom β Timeline
Drag clips from the library into the timeline. Reorder clips by dragging. Click any clip in the timeline to select it and view its settings in the right panel.
Clip Library
Browsing & Filtering
- The library shows clips from your campaigns only β other users' content is not visible
- Use the Campaign filter to show clips for a specific campaign
- Clips generated by the AI design service appear alongside any footage you have uploaded
Uploading Your Own Footage
Deleting Uploaded Clips
Clips you uploaded can be permanently deleted from the library:
- Hover over the clip card in the library
- Click the trash icon that appears
- The clip is removed from the library and from the timeline if it was added there
Building the Timeline
- Drag any clip card from the library and drop it onto the timeline
- Clips play in left-to-right order
- Drag clips within the timeline to reorder them
- Click a clip in the timeline to select it β its controls appear in the right panel
- Remove a clip from the timeline using the β button on its timeline card
Precision Frame Editor
The Precision Frame Editor is a full NLE-style modal for editing a single clip. Open it from the clip inspector by clicking Precision Edit. Images are not supported. The modal contains a canvas preview, a transport bar, a zoomable filmstrip, and a four-tab right panel (BASIC Β· MOTION Β· AI Β· META).
Canvas Controls
- BEFORE / AFTER β toggle between the original ungraded frame and the current color settings to compare adjustments at a glance.
- SAFE AREA β overlays a title-safe guide so you can verify text and key subjects won't be cropped on different platforms.
Transport Bar
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| β / βΆ (Prev / Next) | Jump to the adjacent clip in the timeline without closing the editor. |
| Play / Pause | Standard playback toggle. |
| β» Loop | Toggle loop playback between In and Out points. Turns green when active. |
| Play In | Jump to the In point and play forward. |
| Play Out | Jump to 2 s before the Out point and play to it β review the tail cut. |
| I | Set the In point at the current playhead position. |
| O | Set the Out point at the current playhead position. |
| ΓI / ΓO | Clear the In or Out point (shown only when a point is set). |
Filmstrip & Editing Modes
Below the transport bar is a zoomable filmstrip showing sampled thumbnail frames. A live duration delta displays the original vs edited duration (e.g. 10.0 s β 7.4 s) so you always know how much you've cut. Right-click anywhere on the filmstrip to open a context menu with Set In / Set Out / Add Split Marker options.
Three editing modes are available above the filmstrip:
| Mode | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Trim | Drag the [ (In) or ] (Out) handle to trim the clip's start or end. A frame-number badge (e.g. F42) appears while dragging. |
| Split | Place split markers with S or the β button, then click Apply Splits to cut. |
| Skip | Click regions on the filmstrip to mark them for removal. Marked regions appear as orange chips and are skipped during playback and export. |
Trimming a Clip
Splitting a Clip
Soft-Deleting Split Segments
After applying splits, each segment in the filmstrip shows a Γ icon. Clicking it soft-deletes the segment β it is not permanently removed, only hidden.
- Soft-deleted segments turn red-tinted with a diagonal-stripe overlay and a green βΊ restore icon.
- They are skipped during playback and excluded from export.
- Click βΊ to restore a segment instantly.
- Soft-delete is fully undoable via Ctrl/Cmd+Z.
Deleting a Section
Three methods are available:
BASIC Tab β Color Grading
Six per-clip sliders (β100 to +100, 0 = no change). Changes preview live in the canvas.
| Slider | Effect |
|---|---|
| Exposure | Brighten or darken the overall frame. |
| Contrast | Increase or decrease the tonal range between lights and darks. |
| Temp / Warmth | Shift color temperature warmer (amber) or cooler (blue). |
| Saturation | Boost or desaturate all colors. |
| Sharpness | Add edge accentuation or soften the frame. |
| Noise Reduction | Smooth out grain and digital noise. |
Click Reset All to return all sliders to 0. Use BEFORE / AFTER to compare graded vs. original at any time.
MOTION Tab β Speed, Orientation & Stabilization
- Speed β ΒΌΓ (slow motion) to 4Γ (fast forward). Applied at export.
- Rotation β 0Β°, 90Β° CW, 180Β°, or 90Β° CCW.
- Flip H / Flip V β mirror the clip horizontally or vertically.
- Stabilization β vidstab warp stabilization (applied at export). Reduces camera shake.
- Crop to Stabilize β crops black border artifacts introduced by stabilization.
- Reset Motion β resets all motion settings to defaults in one click.
AI Tab β Automated Frame Analysis
All three tools use NIM vision analysis with automatic fallback to in-browser heuristics.
- π― Best Moment β scans the clip for the highest-motion frame range. Click Run, then Preview to scrub to it or Apply Trim to use it.
- π Blurry Frames β identifies out-of-focus or motion-blurred frames as clickable timecode chips. Use Add as Split Markers to stage them for splitting.
- β Auto-Trim β suggests new In/Out points based on content motion score. Click Apply Suggested Trim to use the suggestion.
META Tab
Read-only clip metadata: Filename, Resolution, Frame Rate, Codec, Duration, Audio track info, File Size, and Source.
Keyboard Shortcuts (Precision Frame Editor)
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Space / K | Play / Pause |
| β / β | Step one frame backward / forward |
| J / L | Seek β1 s / +1 s |
| I | Set trim-in at current playhead |
| O | Set trim-out at current playhead |
| S | Add a pending split marker at current playhead |
| Delete / Backspace | Remove selected drag-region or selected segment |
| Ctrl/Cmd+Z | Undo last edit |
| Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z | Redo |
Saving Your Work & Sessions
Edits are held in memory while the editor is open but are not auto-saved. To persist across a page refresh:
- SAVE AS β creates a new named session containing the current timeline state, overlays, audio mix, and transitions.
- UPDATE β overwrites the currently active session with the latest state.
The active session name is shown in the header dropdown. Switch between saved sessions at any time. If you close the editor without an active session, a reminder Snackbar appears for 8 seconds.
Canvas Overlay Editor
The centre preview canvas supports text and image overlays that are burned into the exported video.
- Click the T (Text) toolbar button to add a text overlay β drag to reposition, resize with handles
- Click the Image toolbar button to add a logo or graphic overlay
- Overlays have optional start time and end time controls so they can fade in and out at specific moments in the clip
- All overlay positions and sizes are automatically scaled when exporting to a different resolution
Audio Controls
For the selected timeline item, the right panel also shows:
- Volume: Slider 0β200 % (100 % = original level)
- Mute: Silence this clip's native audio in the output
A global Background Music track and Voiceover track can be selected from your Audio Library and will run across the entire stitched video, independent of individual clip audio.
Exporting the Final Video
Download Raw Video
Alongside the standard Download button, a Download Raw button is also available once the render completes. The raw file is the concatenated video without overlays and without the background audio/voiceover mix β useful for post-processing in external editors.
Export Error Details
If the export fails, an error banner is shown. Click Show Error Details to expand a scrollable panel containing the full server-side error traceback (up to 2,000 characters). This helps diagnose encoding issues or missing files without needing to access server logs.
Troubleshooting β Video Editor
Clip does not appear in the library
- Clips are scoped to your organization. Ensure you are logged in with the correct account.
- AI-generated clips only appear after the campaign design service has finished generating them.
- Newly uploaded clips may take a few seconds to appear β click Refresh if the clip is not visible after upload.
Export stalls or fails
- Click Show Error Details in the error banner for the server-side traceback.
- Verify all clips in the timeline still exist (deleted uploads will cause a failure).
- Try reducing the output resolution or FPS to lower encoding time.
- Check that the background audio file has not been deleted from the Audio Library.
Precision Edit button not available
- The Precision Edit button only appears for video clips. Images and audio-only clips are not supported.
Split segment not excluded from export
- Ensure the segment shows a red-tinted filmstrip stripe (soft-deleted state). If it still appears active, click the Γ icon to delete it.
- Check that you clicked Apply Splits before closing the editor β pending markers alone do not create segments.
Changes lost after page refresh
- The Precision Frame Editor does not auto-save. Use SAVE AS or UPDATE in the editor header to persist your session to the database.
Platform Framing Preview
Below the canvas, the Platform Framing Preview shows how your scene will appear when cropped for different social platforms.
| Preview | Use case |
|---|---|
| Current | The clip in its native/original aspect ratio. |
| 16:9 | Widescreen crop for YouTube, web, and TV. |
| 1:1 | Square crop for Instagram feed and other square placements. |
| 9:16 | Vertical crop for Reels, Shorts, and Stories. |
The inner box highlights the title-safe zone. Use this preview to ensure key content is not cropped out when published to different platforms.
Cut Snapshots & Editor Sessions
The editor supports named cut snapshots β full captures of the current timeline state, overlays, audio mix, and transition settings.
- SAVE AS β opens a dialog to name and save a new snapshot. The new snapshot becomes the active session.
- UPDATE β overwrites the current active session with the latest state.
- Session dropdown β switch between saved snapshots. Switching loads the full timeline, overlays, and audio state of that snapshot.
Timeline Transitions
Each scene row in the timeline has an outgoing transition preset that plays between that scene and the next.
- Set the transition via the transition pill on the right side of the timeline row or in the inspector.
- Available presets: None, Fade, Dissolve, Wipe, Slide.
- Transition settings persist through session save/load and are included in the export payload.
- To apply the same transition to all scenes, select multiple scenes first then use the batch transition action in the selection bar.

16New Features (October 2026)
The following capabilities were added recently. They appear in the areas of the app described below.
Multi-Clip Video Stitching β All Vendors
In the Campaign Builder, AI video campaigns now support multi-clip stitching for every supported video vendor (Gemini Veo, Kling, Runway, Luma, LTX, Wan). Enable Multi-Clip Stitch in the clip settings, choose how many clips to generate (2β4 depending on vendor), and set a duration for each clip. One prompt is generated per clip and the clips are stitched in order at export. Duration bounds and clip limits are configured per vendor on the server.
Smarter Video Prompts
Long campaign briefs are automatically condensed before video prompt generation while preserving the scene order, subjects, and scenery β scenes are never merged or dropped.
Scheduler: What Worked Panel
The scheduler sidebar now includes a What Worked card that analyzes your published posts' engagement history: engagement rate per platform, the best weekday and hour to publish (appears once at least ten posts have metrics), and your top posts ranked by engagement rate.
Scheduler: A/B Tests
Compare two or more published posts head-to-head. Create a test from the A/B Tests card by picking published posts; each variant's impressions and engagement rate are tracked live. When every variant has at least 500 impressions and 48 hours of runtime, a suggested winner is highlighted and can be marked with one click.
Meta Ads Improvements
The ad dialog now covers the full Meta Ads surface: seven campaign objectives (including Lead Generation and Conversions), gender targeting, and budget currency shown for the selected ad account. Ad accounts are discovered directly from your connected Meta account. Published ad rows in the scheduler show an AD chip with the live campaign status and 30-day spend.
Stock Library: GIFs & Stickers (Giphy)
The stock library now includes animated GIFs and stickers via Giphy. Open the Clip Library, choose the stock source, and search β results include animated previews and full-resolution downloads. (Stock photos and videos via Pexels remain pending API access.)
New Publishing Targets
Threads (text, image, and video posts) and WordPress blogs (publish posts to any self-hosted WordPress or WordPress.com site using an Application Password) are now available as campaign platforms.
Email Newsletters
The new Newsletters page lets you compose an HTML newsletter, manage your workspace's subscriber list, and send over your configured SMTP server, with a sent history and delivery results.
Connected Accounts Expansions
New integration cards: TikTok Ads (advertiser authorization with campaign reporting), Google Business Profile (accounts, locations, and reviews β pending Google API approval), and Google Ads (accessible customers and campaign reporting β pending developer token). The TikTok connection now uses the Singapore API endpoint and supports the new 3β15 second flexible durations.
